Mapping Out Our Course at Pioneer Prep

When one thinks of a map, oftentimes we are drawn to think of a tool that is to be used when one is lost or displaced.  The reality of a map is that it is a blank canvas with the intention of pointing out any spot in the world as a destination and therefore a stepping stone to yet another destination.  Furthermore, maps allow us to reflect on the journey that has been taken, the obstacles overcome, and the unexpected successes.

Here at Pioneer Preparatory School: A Challenge Foundation Academy we have always had one destination in mind:  the creation of literate and contributing citizens of the United States and the world.  We can now safely look back at the journey behind us to learn a great deal about ourselves and how to continue our journey.  We have overcome obstacles: living inside the Boys & Girls Club for a year, massive student growth, and inheriting students that had been failed by their prior educational systems.  We have also experienced a variety of successes: growing our school from a “D” to a “B” in one academic year, reclassifying on average 48% of our ELL students for the past three school years, and maintaining a strong base of supportive families with an average retention rate of 95% each year that we are open.  Now we set our sights again on the future, our next destination…

As the old Japanese proverb goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with that one first step”.  Well, we Pioneer Prep have already taken many more than just one step to start off this journey.  We are now at a full sprint with our eyes aimed at preparing our students for college, career, and beyond.  We can only achieve this as a team, a unified front.  At Pioneer Prep we have a staff full of eager, dedicated educators who align themselves with our belief that all students can grow, learn, and achieve and who know that excuses are not an option.  It does not matter what lies ahead in the road, it only matters what we do to side step it and continue onward…
